Playstation emulator now available for Android - Meet PSX4Droid - IntoMobile (blog)

A Playstation emulator has been something that many Android users have been wanting for some time now, and now that PSX4Droid is now available in the Android Market, that wait is over. With this handy little PS emulator for Android, you can get your fill of PSone games right on your phone!

The emulator may be in it's early stages, but it performs quite well. Being a big fan of survival horror games, I installed PSX4Droid and immediately loaded up Silent Hill. While some of the camera angles seemed to go in the opposite direction of where the character was going, I had no real issues playing the game. Most issues may likely be with the particular ROM you've downloaded, and not necessarily the the emulator itself. Sound on the emulator could be better, as some effects are garbled and distorted, and if you've ever played any Silent Hill game, you'd know that the music and sound effects are a large element of the game.

What's even better, though I have yet to try it out, is that I'm using the emulator on the T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant. If you're lucky enough to have a Samsung Galaxy S, or one of its many carrier variants – you too can connect the handset to your TV and play the video game via the TV-out feature. Doing this basically turns your Galaxy S into a game controller. This feature might be enough to make the Galaxy S line a little more attractive to mobile gamers out there.

Like I had said before, some issues you may experience may actually be the ROM you download, and not necessarily the emulator, but I can say this app performed better than my PC emulator I'd previously been using. The Android emulator supports a handful of ROM extensions, allows you to use your trackball or D-pad to navigate, and even lets you use the on-screen controls as seen above.

Save states are a go, and you can even use a WiiMote controller for it if you'd like! The application is only for higher-end devices, so you're SOL if you're sporting a G1.

Are you ready to get some real gaming done on your Android phone? PSX4Droid is available right now for $5.99 on the Android Market, and it's definitely worth it!

Now that it's Legal to Jailbreak, Will You? - WirelessGround.com Blog (blog)

Now that that pesky DMCA nonsense has been settled with regards to jailbreaking and unlocking cellular phones—yeah, the Government just declared it  completely legal to do so—jailbreaking might just enter the realm of legitimate business. This also brings up the question of whether or not you will be deciding if jailbreaking is right for you and your iPhone or other iOS-powered device. First, let's take a look at what two of the most interested parties in this breakthrough have to say.

Apple:

"As we've said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones as this can violate the warranty and can cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably."

Yeah, or maybe you just do not want competing app stores to flourish and want to keep us stuck in your iOS monopoly.

Electronic Frontier Foundation (the good guys):

"We are thrilled to have helped free jailbreakers, unlockers and vidders from this law's overbroad reach."

Bingo. It is good to see someone standing up and helping out all of us.

So, are you going to unlock your iOS device? I have an unlocked iPhone and an unlocked iPod touch and could not be happier with the decision. There really is just so much more that an unlocked Apple device can do. Awesome themes, features Apple wants you to upgrade for (like video camera abilities on the 3G—yeah, the 3G can do video if you unlock it and get the right app) and even loads of cool, free games. SNES and Sega Genesis anyone? PlayStation emulators are even floating around, though I am not sure that the touchscreen is up to the task of emulating a real controller like on the PlayStation.

The argument can be made however that unlocking your iOS device can bring along a number of problems. Your warranty is voided, some non-iTunes store apps are buggy and crash, and it's possible you could get a virus if you are not careful of what you download. The decision is really up to you and you have to weigh the pros and cons. Of course, if you want to use a carrier besides AT&T then you have to jailbreak and unlock.

Now that the moral dilemma has been taken out of the picture, are you going to unlock and possibly jailbreak? Let us know.

If you already have and if you think that it's worth the time sound off below!
