PlayStation Suite coming to Tegra Zone this year - Tech2

Posted: 11 Mar 2011 01:07 AM PST

Us common folk in India are yet to get our paws on any of the various NVIDIA Tegra 2-powered devices. However, people across the world have, and those who checked the Tegra 2-exclusive Tegra Zone out recently would've noticed something that piqued their interest.

Suite up!

There's a listing for the PlayStation Suite making its way across to the Tegra Zone this year. The PlayStation Suite, which was announced along with the launch of the Next Generation Portable, aims to take PlayStation gaming onto the Android platform, and in a big way. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play (a.k.a the PlayStation Phone) comes with full PlayStation Suite support and will probably have the ability to play PlayStation games natively, without depending on an Android PSX emulator.

The processing power of the dual-core Tegra 2 is well known by now, so the announcement doesn't come as a surprise. While most Android devices will struggle to emulate proper PlayStation games in all their glory, those powered by Tegra 2 are most likely capable. Whether PlayStation 2 games are coming to Android is a question that remains unanswered, but Sony will probably have to figure out a way to do what Emulator developers have been trying to do for years – get PS2 games working on a 1GHz dual-core processor. Either way, these are exciting times for mobile gaming, what with the Xperia Play and LG Optimus 3D releasing soon, and now this.

First Nintendo 64 Emulator – N64oid – Hits the Android Market - Phandroid.com

Posted: 04 Mar 2011 04:36 AM PST

Android has quickly become known for its suite of classic game console emulators such as the Sega Genesis, the Super Nintendo, and the Gameboy Advance. Even the original PlayStation has gotten its own emulator. The Nintendo 64 is ready to jump into the fold, though, as the same folks who've brought us the "oid" series of emulators has introduced N64oid.

It has the usual emulator features such as translucent on-screen controls and the ability to map keys to specific buttons. (Good for you Game Gripper fans out there.) And compatibility is expected to be very good as most games play with exceptional speed and sound. (Though they warn you might need a high-end device to get that kind of performance.) FPse PlayStation emulator debuts on the Android Market - Switched

Posted: 14 Feb 2011 01:25 PM PST

Android FPseWhile we wait for the official Sony-created PlayStation emulator to hit the Android platform, one of the best mobile PlayStation emulators, FPSeCe, has made the jump from Windows Mobile to Android.

Available for just under $5, and having dropped the CE (for Windows CE), FPse brings another PSOne emulation option to your Android smartphone. It's able to take ISO backups from your PSOne discs, something Sony's own PlayStation app for Android is very unlikely to let you do, and supports Android 2.2 and up.

So if you've been dying to get in on some Tony Hawk Pro Skater-action on the move, but haven't found other options to your liking, then check out FPse in the Android Market. Just make sure to have a look at the compatibility list before plunking down your hard-earned cash, just in case your favorite game isn't supported yet.
