PlayStation Phone PSOne Emulator in Action - Tom's Guide

The latest PlayStation Phone video shows its built-in PSOne emulator in action.

Another video showing the Sony Erisccon Xperia Play (PlayStation Phone) has surfaced, and may indicate that the device will have a built-in PlayStation One emulator.

As seen in the short video, the user previously installed ROM Buddy on the device, an Android app that allows gamers to download their favorite ROMs located online. However this app isn't an actual emulator, but merely a file downloader. To play the games, the user loaded the two BIN files (Ridge Racer and Resident Evil 2) by way of a PlayStation app located on the main Home screen. The user simply launched the app, searched for the ROM Buddy folder containing the files, and loaded the storage game.

Unsurprisingly, both games seem to perform fantastically well on the hardware. As reported last week, the device will supposedly come packed with a Qualcomm Adreno 205 GPU, a 1 GHz Snapdragon QSD8255 processor, a 4-inch LCD display with 854 x 480 resolution, 512 MB of RAM, 512 MB of ROM, a microSD card slot and more. It will also come with a slide-out gamepad playing host to a PlayStation-style D-Pad and buttons, and two touch-sensitive analog pads.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is expected to make its grand entrance next month during the Mobile World Congress conference expo in Barcelona, Spain, at a Sony Ericsson press conference on the Sunday evening. The company hasn't officially acknowledged the phone, however CEO Bert Nordberg hinted to its existence back in November, saying "there's a lot of smoke, and I tell you there must be a fire somewhere."

The phone is expected to go retail in April.

SNK have released a batch of NeoGeo titles on the PlayStation Network for PSP, each one priced at $6.99. These conveniently come with standard emulator features such as Save states, in-game instruction manuals, a music player and replays.

This batch of NeoGeo releases includes: Alpha Mission II, Art of Fighting, Baseball Stars Professional, League Bowling, Magician Lord, Samurai Shodown, Super Sidekicks, and The King of Fighters '94.

For those waiting for other games from the NeoGeo's list of games, Shinya Morishita of SNK Playmore recently told Siliconera that we could possibly see more of those titles being released on PlayStation Network in the future.
