| Freekade Goes Up For Auction [The April Fool's Joke Turned Live Product Is Now ... - TFTS (blog) Posted: 19 Aug 2010 01:24 PM PDT It started life as an April Fool's joke on a technology website, but now, it's a Real Thing, and it's officially available for purchase on eBay UK. It's the Freekade, a combination of an iPad and an old arcade-style cabinet.
It works pretty simply, actually–you slot your iPad into the monitor slot, and then the controls connect via Bluetooth. From there, you jailbreak your iPad (which comes with its own risks) and get some emulators from the Cydia Store. This allows you to play eight-bit NES games, Super Nintendo games, and even original Playstation games. The auction is currently up to 122 pounds sterling (roughly $194 US), and the shipping is running an extra 20 pounds. If anyone else wants one of these, sadly, you'll have to build your own as this is the only one out there, so far, and they're only shipping it anywhere the Royal Mail will insure it. Still though, as far as retro gaming goes, this may well be the pinnacle.
